60mm to 80mm Fan Adapter
Information from: Chainbolt

80mm metal adapters are around in Japan since around 6 months now. I have seen them nowhere else, so I think it's worthwhile to have a notice about this. I know there are other modifications to put an 80mm fan on a 60mm socket HSF, but they seem to be rather fragile and inefficient.

The "handmade" adapters (as it is said on the label) are made of metal, I don't think it's aluminium. They can be used for any socket HSF like the PAL6035, Global Win FOPs, Taisol etc. The attached pictures explain how the adater looks like when fully mounted with a 80mm fan on a 60mm PAL6035.

The advantages are obvious: Together with the 80mm Delta FFB0812SHE you move 68.5 CFM at 4.900 rpm. This is much more than even the best 60mm delta can move and the noise is lower. Furthermore, the adaptor is significantly enlarging the surface area available for heat absorbation.

With my PAL6035, I get with the 80mm Delta+adapter combo in comparison with a 60mm Delta (4,600 rpm) 1-2 Celsius lower CPU temperature when idling and between 2 and 3 C lower temp under stress.

My Duron 850@1150 (1.85 VCore) is 33 C idling and 38C under stress after 30 minutes 3DM2K. Ambient is 23 C and mobo temp is 28 C.

The drawback is the price. Currently these adapters are retailing for 3,500 Yen, which is around 28 USD. I guess because of the relatively small volume for sales only in Japan, the price is as high as this.
